This project investigates the formation of meristems in plants, focusing on gene expression patterns during early development. Using the bryophyte Marchantia polymorpha as a model, it aims to uncover the molecular mechanisms that establish organized growth from a single cell.
Meristem formation is essential for continuous and organised growth in all land plants.
The meristem is a multicellular generative centre that produces the plant body and is maintained by spatially restricted gene expression domains throughout a plant’s lifespan.
