DEEPTREES aims to enhance understanding of past mass extinction events by integrating fossil and living marine invertebrate data. It employs DNA barcoding and computational modeling to quantify hidden biodiversity.
DEEPTREES will unite disciplines across life sciences, to use DNA barcoding to put error bars on the fossil record. A major challenge remains to unlock the data from past mass extinction events in earth’s history to help prepare us for the future.
