COSTREAM investigates how agricultural practices and climate change influence dissolved organic matter in streams. By analyzing long-term data and conducting field studies, the project aims to enhance understanding of stream water quality and inform management strategies for rural landscapes.
The rising trends in terrestrial dissolved organic matter (DOM) concentrations in streams have become a serious environmental issue in many catchments of the northern hemisphere.
Indeed, DOM impairs water quality and affects the biogeochemical and ecological functioning of aquatic ecosystems.
