This project investigates the environmental factors affecting cold-water coral reefs, focusing on the growth and destruction processes of key species in the North East Atlantic. It includes laboratory experiments to assess the impact of climate change on coral calcification and potential pathogens.
Cold-water coral reefs are important but poorly studied ecosystems.
Given global climate change, two important questions are (1) what are the environmental controls of reef framework growth? and (2) how might cold-water corals be affected by environmental change?
