The CloSed project aims to improve sedation practices in pediatric intensive care by developing a safe, age-appropriate formulation of clonidine. It includes a clinical trial to compare clonidine with midazolam, addressing a critical need for effective sedation in critically ill children.
The majority of critically ill children admitted to Paediatric Intensive Care Units (PICU) will require sedationand analgesia which is commonly achieved with a combination of an benzodiazepine and an opioid.
However,these agents have a significant side-effect profile, including tolerance, withdrawal and respiratory/circulatorydepression.
