This project aims to enhance climate models by integrating biogeochemical processes, specifically the interactions of carbon, nitrogen, phosphorus, and sulfur cycles. The research will assess how these cycles influence climate projections and reduce uncertainties in understanding global warming.
State-of-the-art earth system models used for long-term climate projections are becoming ever more complex in terms of not only spatial resolution but also the number of processes included in the models.
Biogeochemical processes are just beginning to be incorporated into these complex models due to a difficulty in resolving heterogeneous biogeochemical processes.
