This project aims to document climate changes during the last deglaciation by analyzing pollen data. It will assess the impact of climate and atmospheric carbon dioxide changes on vegetation and investigate large-scale atmospheric circulation and hydrological cycles.
The last deglaciation (from ~21,000 to 9,000 years ago), during which the huge ice sheets over the North America and Scandinavia melted, is a period of tremendous climate and environmental changes, including Heinrich Stadial 1 (HS1, abrupt cooling over and around the North Atlantic), Bolling Warming (BW) and Younger Dryas Cooling (YD).
