The CLASP project aims to create an online library of Anglo-Saxon poetry, encompassing both Old English and Anglo-Latin works from 670 to 1100 CE. This resource will enable detailed analysis of poetic features and historical connections among poets, enhancing understanding of literary evolution in early England.
As elsewhere in Europe, Anglo-Saxon England saw a development from an oral, vernacular, native, and pagan culture to one that was primarily literate, Latinate, imported, and Christian; and such a transition is clearest in Anglo-Saxon verse.
