This project addresses antibiotic resistance by investigating the communication between bacteria and human cells. It aims to develop chemical tools to understand how bacterial virulence is influenced by human signals, potentially leading to new therapeutic strategies.
The emergence of antibiotic resistance in bacteria, coupled with the rise in hospital-acquired infections, is a key problem for global health.
There is an urgent need to discover antibiotics with novel modes of action to tackle multi-drug resistant strains and to complement current therapies.
To this end, a better understanding of microbial virulence and the complexities operating at the host-pathogen interface is needed.
