CEPHOS-LINK investigates the factors influencing psychiatric hospital readmissions across six European countries. By analyzing large health databases, the project aims to identify patterns and develop guidelines to improve mental health services and reduce unnecessary hospitalizations.
Psychiatric services have undergone profound changes over the last decades.
Large mental hospitals were downsized or closed and community mental health services set up, in order to move treatment of patients from institutions to the community.
However, little is known about the effectiveness of this “de-institutionalisation” approach.
