This project explores the role of mechanical drawing techniques, such as manual copying and tracing, in early modern architectural education. It challenges traditional views that dismiss these practices as inferior, highlighting their significance in shaping design training and collaborative architectural production.
This project advances the hypothesis that techniques of mechanical drawing, and specifically, drawings produced by manual copying and direct tracing, served as the bedrock of early modern architectural education prior to the advent of formal schools of architecture.
