This project aims to enhance breast magnetic resonance imaging by improving its specificity and sensitivity through computerized image analysis. By integrating various types of information, the goal is to reduce false-positive diagnoses and improve cancer detection and management.
Breast magnetic resonance imaging is finding clinical application as an adjunct diagnostic procedure to ultrasound and mammography. A major limitation of MRI, however, is that although it has a high sensitivity to breast cancer, its specificity is poor to moderate.
Poor specificity equates to a high chance of making a false-positive diagnosis.
