Deneb Medical is developing the BoneCut Collaborative Robot to assist in craniotomies and laminotomies, aiming to reduce the risk of unintended damage during surgery. This robotic system enhances precision and control, potentially improving patient outcomes and reducing recovery times.
Nowadays, a total of 920k laminectomies and craniotomies (EU and US) are performed every year.
In about 10% of these surgical procedures iatrogenic damage (unintended damage during surgery to anatomical structures such as nerves, blood vessels etc.) to dura mater (fibrous membrane that surrounds the brain and the spinal cord and retains the cerebrospinal fluid) occurs, with a wide ranging postoperative impact to patients, such as severe nerve injuries, long healing time or even death.
