This project addresses harmful algal blooms (HABs) by developing methods for early detection and reducing toxin levels in seafood. It aims to enhance the sustainability of aquaculture and fisheries while improving understanding of toxins and their effects on marine life and human health.

Major concerns are addressed to the increasing occurrence of these natural events in certain regions of the world, driven by global warming and anthropogenic pressure.
Human illnesses related to the intake of contaminated seafood have been attributed to these events.
