The project aims to uncover the biophysical mechanisms behind the adhesion strength of gap junctions, which are crucial for cell communication. By using advanced biochemistry and biophysical techniques, it seeks to measure the forces between connexon pairs in cell membranes.
Gap junctions are intercellular channels present in almost all epithelia and in many other specialized tissues.
