This project focuses on the mechanics of the cytoskeleton and its adaptability to environmental changes. By using DNA strands as cross-linkers, it aims to understand the interplay between molecular motors and mechanical properties, with potential applications in tissue engineering.
The mechanics of cellular processes are determined by the cytoskeleton, a biopolymer network which spans the cell and provides it with mechanical strength.
Cells have the capability to autonomously adapt structure and mechanical properties of their cytoskeletal network to changes in physical properties of the surrounding tissue, for which mechanosensing processes play an important role, allowing cells to sense those changes through their focal adhesions.
