The project aims to enhance understanding of earthquake mechanics by simulating earthquakes in a lab setting. It will analyze the relationship between fault geometry and rupture dynamics to improve earthquake hazard assessments.
Large-magnitude earthquakes accommodate most of the tectonic deformations of the Earth along active fault systems.
