The BAN-CANCER project develops a theranostic device for real-time detection and treatment of cancerous cells at breast tumor margins. It utilizes nanoscale materials to deliver chemotherapy and provide imaging at the single cell level during surgery, improving surgical outcomes.
Successful surgical treatment of breast cancer crucially depends on accurate detection of the boundaries between malignant and healthy cells (tumor margins) and is a major determinant of patient survival.
