This project aims to investigate the environmental impact of synthetic surfactants and pharmaceutical compounds in coastal areas and contaminated aquifers. It seeks to understand their occurrence, sources, and degradation processes to inform future environmental policies.
This project focuses on better understanding the occurrence and fate of two of the main general classes of emerging pollutants: synthetic surfactants and pharmaceutically active compounds (PhACs).
Surfactants find widespread use in the formulation of detergents, with alcohol ethoxylates (AEOs) constituting one of the highest percentages of the total.
