AWOKAZ explores the interplay of work and values among astronomers, herders, and tourist guides in Kazakhstan's space research context. It examines how these groups construct their lives and social relations in relation to cosmic events and the infrastructures of space research.
Space exploration is driven by work and values. AWOKAZ investigates the role of work and values in creating, maintaining and disrupting social relations in and around the observatories and laboratories of the Fesenkov Institute of Astrophysics (FAI) in Kazakhstan.
