This project investigates the energy use and aerodynamics of bird flight, focusing on migratory behavior and the effects of climate change. Experiments will assess how turbulence impacts energy expenditure, the costs of feather molting, and the flight dynamics of Common Swifts during foraging and roosting.
Here we propose a series of experiments on the energetics and aerodynamics of avian flight and migratory behavior, to be performed at Lund University.
In Experiment 1, we will be examining the effects of turbulence on the energy use of migratory birds in order to better understand how atmospheric conditions affect migrants and what effects climate change may have on them.
