This project aims to utilize attosecond technology to observe and control electron dynamics in molecules. By achieving this unprecedented temporal resolution, it seeks to enhance our understanding of ultrafast processes that influence the properties of matter at a microscopic level.
Ultrafast processes in molecules with key character for the macroscopic properties of matter have been studied so far utilizing the best available tools for gaining temporal resolution, namely: femtosecond laser pulses.
These pulses however, though capable of providing resolution to track the atomic motion and the formation and rupture of the chemical bond in real time, fail to track the motion of electrons which is expected to evolve on an attosecond time scale ( 1 as =10^-18 s).
