The AquAsZero project aims to create a low-cost adsorbent material for removing arsenic from drinking water, achieving over 99% removal efficiency. By utilizing iron-based media and catalysts, the project seeks to reduce operational costs and enhance the economic viability of water treatment facilities.
The standards for arsenic in drinking water have been revised; in Europe, through the Directive 98/83/CE, and in the U.S.. the new Maximum Contaminant Level is now 10 μgAs/L.
Fulfilling these new requirements is therefore urgent and it will be a major challenge for the water supply companies, as existing technologies are partly meeting these needs.
The major issue in the new Arsenic limit is the associated costs to the water treatment facilities.
