The AlphaDBS project develops a novel deep brain stimulation system that offers both conventional and adaptive stimulation modes. By utilizing local field potentials to adjust stimulation in real-time, it aims to improve treatment for Parkinson's disease by responding dynamically to the patient's neural activity.
Differently from other DBS systems on the market, the AlphaDBS can be programmed with two different types of stimulation: conventional DBS, which is implemented also by other DBS systems, and adaptive DBS (aDBS) that automatically adjusts the energy delivered to patient using a biosignal, local field potential (LFP), in a close loop configuration.
