This project focuses on developing biodiesel from microalgae, which can produce oil much faster than traditional crops. It aims to identify suitable microalgae species and optimize their oil production for sustainable energy solutions in the transport sector.
The proposed research bridges the gap between science and technology and targets one of the main challenges of our epoch, namely clean energy.
According to the Kyoto Protocol, emissions of greenhouse gases should be reduced by at least 5% compared to 1990 levels, during the period 2008-2012.
To meet this goal, the European Union has agreed to attain by 2010 a minimum penetration of 12% of renewable energy sources.
