ABCCycle aims to create a detailed age model for key archaeological sites in East Africa to investigate the relationship between climate change and human evolution. By using advanced geological dating techniques, the project seeks to understand how environmental shifts influenced hominin development.
Age control is central in the study of human evolution as most if not all major hypotheses in palaeoanthropology and archaeology critically depend on it.
It is further generally assumed that adaptation to new environments was the catalyst to key biological and cultural innovations in our ancestral lineage.
However, in most cases, a high-resolution temporal framework to test whether human evolution is driven by environmental and climate change is lacking.
