This project explores the mechanisms of transgenerational epigenetic inheritance, focusing on how certain proteins regulate chromatin states across generations. By studying Drosophila models, it aims to reveal the biological significance of these processes in development.
Epigenetic inheritance entails transmission of phenotypic traits not encoded in the DNA sequence and, in the most extreme case, Transgenerational Epigenetic Inheritance (TEI) involves transmission of memory through multiple generations.
Very little is known on the mechanisms governing TEI and this is the subject of the present proposal.
